It's not that your account has been updated, it's that you somehow toggled into the old Classic interface. You need to get back into the newer Lightning Interface. To do that, click where it says "Switch to Lightning Experience" on the upper right next to your name. Then you'll be back in Lightning and everything will match the instructions again.
It's possible you got into Classic by not setting your browser settings as required. The requirements are given at the top of the Lab 1a cover sheet. You need to allow cross-site scripting/tracking, depending on which browser you're using. Otherwise you will run into problems and SF will give you an option to switch into Classic mode to complete the task but you don't want to do that. It won't work. Instead, get your browser settings set correctly and then this shouldn't happen again.
