Ok, are you saying you never were even able to log into the new account? If that's the case, it's probably due to using an email host this time, like maybe your school email system, that has link-checker like Safelinks. This is a security add-on software that checks links before you receive them. When it does that with the message that Salesforce sends, it "ruins" the link because the link can be used only once and the checker has used it already before you even receive the email.
If that's what's going on, you need to use a regular email that is not hosted by your school or some organization that is screening the links for you. Like you could just get a new Gmail account, just for use with the labs. Then use that address when you submit the form for a new Salesforce account at that link I gave you. That should help.
