I am having some trouble the link I have been sent doesn't seem to take me to the right page, I am looking for the gear icon and don't see anything resembling the image on the lab packet. There is a setup button but it doesn't look anything like the example.

Yeah, this definitely looks wrong. It's showing the older Classic interface and there's no option to toggle into the newer Lightning interface. And the app you're in, and those tabs, look totally unfamiliar.
I'm confused when you say you were sent a link to this page. In Lab 1a, on page 2, Max give you a link to use to get a Salesforce account. Did you use that link? If so, did it open to this when you first logged in?

During my process of installing the Max Lab for 1a I had some trouble. I received a code from my teacher and when entering the code, it said that the "code has already been redeemed." I tried entering the code multiple times and nothing happened. I also checked to see if it installed on salesforce and I dont see anything. Not sure what else to do.

I have completed all pre tasks and have setup my payment and everything that is checked. Once seeing the video on how to further my progress it shows me the option to get to the app to install. But, with that being said it shows me that the app is not able for me to download.

I find myself in the same situation, in fact it does not appear on my screen, and I am not sure as to why?
Oh, no! It sounds like you're doing everything right. Occasionally, I've seen students that had some kind of security utility on their laptop that was blocking it somehow. Have you tried a different machine/device? If not, maybe give that a try.
If that doens't help, then it may just be some temporary glitch at the Salesforce end that they would probably fix within a few hours, I expect.
Try a different device and let me know, ok? I may able to get you an account on my end if you're still not able to.
