If the email thing is not working. Go to setup. Then Email. Then classic email templates. Then below edit, delete, clone, there is a button that says, "Send Test and Verify Merge Fields". Click it and then for the first drop down put Lead. The second drop-down put the user. Choose the lead and the user according to the email template that you are trying to create. For example, for the 'New Bay Area Investment Lead!' use lead (John Conner) and user (your name*). Then send yourself the email.
Sorry you're stuck but there's almost always a pretty easy fix! Do NOT try to start all over again, uninstall Max's Pitch Package, etc. That can make it worse. There's a 95% chance the same snag/fix is listed & answered in the Help FAQ. But if you can't find it there, post your problem here.
